La personalizzazione del proprio strumento è il concetto base su cui si afferma l’intero mercato commerciale degli strumenti musicali, e non solo. Per quanto riguarda i chitarristi, o i bassisti, il mondo del commercio offre numerose possibilità di personalizzazione: si vendono centinaia di pick ups differenti, ciascuno costruito a puntino per poter esprimere un suono specifico o per essere quanto più pulito ed isolato possibile. Molti di questi prodotti sono a basso costo e dall’utilizzo semplice e veloce, altri invece sono prodotti dai costi più elevati che vanno installati seguendo procedure lunghe e complesse, spesso eseguite da personale specializzato, come ad esempio in uno dei più comuni interventi che è la sostituzione dei pick ups. Su questo si basa la teoria di costruzione di questo strumento, che permetterebbe al proprietario di modificare appunto le performance o l’aspetto della chitarra, senza dipendere in alcun modo dall’aiuto di personale specializzato nella costruzione o riparazione di strumenti.
