As a main theme for the master degree thesis, I was looking to propose the solution for the real demand problem. Therefore, the idea to develop project in Santiago Chile on the topic of “Emerging Ecologies” found its roots in the architectural competition, announced in June 2016. The site area proposed by a scientific committee of the competition was a 998-Hectare land called “Fundo San Francisco” located way out of Santiago and included the lands of the priority site “El Roble” and agricultural lands. The boundary of the site was dictated by ownership and was not related to any other important conditions as environment, geography or ecology. After careful observations of the above prerequisites, it was decided to consider a larger area for the development of the master thesis project to include the land starting from part of the nearby community Maipu and all the way to the priority site El Roble. In this way, Fundo San Francisco becoming an important linkage between the urban area of Santiago, Chile and the natural area of priority site El Roble. The urban sprawl of Maipú is increasingly spreading towards the west of Santiago. It is not difficult to imagine how, in a few years, the Fundo San Francisco may become part of the city’s urban sprawl. The long-term objective to create a proposal, including future scenarios of urban growth, became a foundation in the research on the metropolitan scale. On the other hand, given the proximity to Maipu within the urbanized area of Santiago, the site today has great potential to link an urban situation with the landscape and natural environment of the protected site. The proposal has to consider this condition as a key to generate projects capable of creating public space of interest to the community, developing types of activities (sports, recreational, cultural etc) that have functions of public interest and community resource. This first step of integration could be realized in nearest future. The main objective became imagining future scenarios that protect the ecosystem of the site, viewing it as a resource and potential attractor to the site, promoting proactive and non-restrictive approaches that allow occupation of the territory without harming the natural environment.

Abstract
As a main theme for the master degree thesis, I was looking to propose the solution for the real demand problem. Therefore, the idea to develop project in Santiago Chile on the topic of “Emerging Ecologies” found its roots in the architectural competition, announced in June 2016. The site area proposed by a scientific committee of the competition was a 998-Hectare land called “Fundo San Francisco” located way out of Santiago and included the lands of the priority site “El Roble” and agricultural lands.
