The current research makes a first attempt at building a comprehensive framework on the topic of supply chain organization and its linkages with strategic orientation. In more detail the thesis work, basing on 10 explorative case studies from several industries, support the in-depth understanding of the models and the drivers that guide the adoption of specific supply chain organizational structures, and has a specific focus over the rationales behind the selection of both macrostructural and microstructural models and their alignment with chosen strategic orientation. The proposed case studies, in fact, were aiming at investigating the chain of contingencies which, stemming from environmental variables and determinants, drive the decision of adopting a specific supply chain organizational structure and how such choice could impact over outcomes. Furthermore, the general framework developed in the study has been organized considering how the knowledge and the learning orientation of an organization could moderate the chain of contingencies found. Main findings support the existent literature and add new relevant contributions to the topic of supply chain organization. Results, in fact, show that since supply chain organization is a wide topic, the decision of adopting a specific model is driven by a number of factors including exogenous variables, over which the organization has no or very limited influence, the degree of external collaboration with supply chain partners and managerial choices.

Abstract
Results, in fact, show that since supply chain organization is a wide topic, the decision of adopting a specific model is driven by a number of factors including exogenous variables, over which the organization has no or very limited influence, the degree of external collaboration with supply chain partners and managerial choices.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
