The topic of Remanufacturing is currently attracting a continuously growing number of companies across different industries, willing to achieve economic and environmental benefits. However, the uncertainty and variability related to operational processes could discourage investments. With the objective of coping with this challenge, aiming at steadier and more proficient processes, this work introduces a generic and reconfigurable simulation model. The developed model relies on a modular framework, customizable to the characteristics of the process under analysis. This tool can also assess the impact of different production release policies, for instance Kanban-related, in terms of logistic performances, finding which one could be the most appropriate solution for the process in question. The model is presented focusing first on the modules developed, namely, Sorting, Cleaning, Inspection, Disassembly, Reconditioning, Reassembly and Outsourcing and then on the functions enabling the model setting. To prove its effectiveness, the model was first validated and then tested over a real industrial case. The first novelty brought to the research is that, with respect to the simulation models found in literature, the developed model is able to exploit the modularization for shaping remanufacturing processes and their production release management, independently from the industry in question. Another improvement, with respect of previous research, is that the model has transferred the concept of reconfigurability from a physical manufacturing environment to the modelling field, hence, presenting a model updatable over time.

Abstract
Another improvement, with respect of previous research, is that the model has transferred the concept of reconfigurability from a physical manufacturing environment to the modelling field, hence, presenting a model updatable over time.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
