Throughout the years, various attempts towards providing theories, definitions and frameworks of User Experience (UX) have been done in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community. UX is usually considered as an extension of Usability. However, the lack of generally agreed formal definitions of HCI / Usability / UX may have negative consequences on the development and application of those concepts into practice. Thus, the aim of this paper is to provide some clarity on the current state of research by analyzing how the concept of User Experience (UX) was born, how it evolved throughout the years, and its relationship with the notion of Usability.

Abstract
Throughout the years, various attempts towards providing theories, definitions and frameworks of User Experience (UX) have been done in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community. UX is usually considered as an extension of Usability. However, the lack of generally agreed formal definitions of HCI / Usability / UX may have negative consequences on the development and application of those concepts into practice. Thus, the aim of this paper is to provide some clarity on the current state of research by analyzing how the concept of User Experience (UX) was born, how it evolved throughout the years, and its relationship with the notion of Usability.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
