Abstract
The review of the existing literature does not provide a clear picture of how a company implements Inbound Open Innovation. approaching to external inputs and internalizing them to benefit from their use. Moreover, it is not possible to find sufficient information about how a company practically implement this processes, meaning the changes in corporate culture, procedures and resources, both financial and human, to invest in the project. Education has always been a stable environment, with no breakthrough innovations shaking its peace or major changes to its operation. In 2011 the MOOCs innovation began to spread in the educational environment, witnessing the birth of different platforms offering this service. Those providers involved the most prestigious universities and educational institutions all over the World. This thesis reviews the behavior of universities when facing an external innovation as the MOOCs one, trying to detect differences and similarities with the literature cases in other industries. It discusses the implementation of Open Innovation in its different steps: the first touch with the innovation, the decision of implementing it and the subsequent insertion in the working environment of the university. This is an explanatory research project on multiple Case Studies: it inquires on the approach of different university, with different background, objectives and available resources, to the MOOCs innovation. The necessary information was collected through a literature review on the major themes related to innovation implementation, and interviews to the actors actively involved in the MOOCs project of their university.
