Risk analysis in proposal process : development of a model for the sales opportunity evaluation in a small medium enterprise

The aim of this thesis-work is a Risk Analysis in Proposal Process for the Sales Opportunity Evaluation in a Small Medium Enterprise (SME). The first part of the work is the understanding studying the Proposal Process, with a focus on the SMEs working by order. Then the state of the art about the Risk Analysis has been studied: a General Risk Analysis Model structure and techniques have been selected and explained. Once this step has been finished, the Risk Analysis and the development of the Model to be used in the Proposal Process of Gama S.r.l. have been performed. Gama S.r.l. is a SME working on order that is situated at Albano Sant’Alessandro (BG). The Model has been created using an Excel sheet, in order to be easily integrated in the company processes. In order to check the new model, a further step of validation has been implemented. This validation has been performed using the old and current orders Gama S.r.l. Moreover, several analyses have been run using the data coming from the validation, and these analyses have been used both to increase the quality of the model and to analyze the Company’s orders, Customers, etc. At the end, the limits of applicability of the model have been defined, with its possible extensions in other Companies. The result of this thesis-work is the creation of a model useful for a Risk Analysis in a Proposal Process: this model can be used as a checklist to take into account all the risks, and eliminate the ones that are not present, therefore evaluating them and focusing on the critical ones. Moreover, the post-validation analyses give a better understanding of the situation of Gama S.r.l, its Stakeholders, and therefore underlining possible critical issues in the internal processes.  

L’obbiettivo di questa Tesi è un’Analisi dei Rischi nel Processo Proposal per valutare le opportunità commerciali in una Piccola Medio Impresa (PMI). La prima parte del lavoro è stata capire e studiare il Processo Proposal, in particolare nell’abito delle PMI che lavorano su commessa. Poi, è stato analizzato e studiato lo stato dell’arte con il fine di creare un modello Generale di Analisi dei Rischi, la sua struttura e le possibili tecniche da usare. Una volta finito questo studio generale, l’analisi dei Rischi e lo sviluppo del modello sono stati applicati al processo Proposal di Gama S.r.l.: una PMI che lavora su commessa, situata ad Albano Sant’Alessandro (BG). Il Modello è stato creato usando un foglio di calcolo in Excel, in modo da essere facilmente integrato nei processi della società. Dopo la creazione del modello, è stata necessaria la sua validazione, che è stata sviluppata usando gli ordini passati e correnti di Gama S.r.l. Su questa validazione, inoltre, sono state fatte diverse analisi, sia per incrementare la qualità del modello sia per analizzare gli ordini, clienti, settori della società. Alla fine, sono stati definiti i limiti di applicabilità del modello e le sue possibili estensioni. Il risultato di questa tesi è la creazione di un modello utile per un’Analisi dei rischi nel Processo Proposal: questo modello può essere usato come checklist per eliminare i rischi non presenti, tenere in considerazione tutti i possibili rischi, e valutarli con un metodo semi-quantitativo. Inoltre, le analisi sulla validazione del modello sono state utili per comprendere meglio la situazione di Gama S.r.l., i suoi stakeholders, come i clienti, e sottolineare possibili criticità nei suoi processi interni.
