Abstract
Resistant and adaptive infrastructures cannot be built in once. They are growing with the relationships and integrating into surrounding systems. They evolve silently around nature. While the urban populations grow in today’s world, normally interest in living systems infrastuctures are increased. Those systems are able to operate at an urban scale, growing up and increasing their capacity with the populations they needed to support. This project presents a pinpoint study of bio-infrasturcture system, a high-performance, engineered and managed ecological system that has to be developed for decades for preventing the future flash floods, teaching the adaptive methods to live with risen water levels, treating the urban runoff and urban waste, produce fresh food, create a land of emergency and supports economy while cleansing the enviroment. In order to learn from this pinpoint study, it may be necessary to adopt a new angle for approaching infrastuctural systems through an understanding of their behavior and their relationships with the nature where sustainability is achieved. Bio-infrastucture systems utilizes landscape systems to perform ecosystem services (treating runoff water, increasing air quality, processing waste, squestering carbon, producing energy and nutrients), taking advantage of symbiotic relationships between system components and functions. Bio-infrastuctures present a model of thinking and design of hybrid systems which use an ecosystem ecology perspective to manage environments. Bringing landscape engineering and enviroment management to urban landscape causes us to reconsider the idea of the city, its essentials and relationships of its components which can be made naturally, socially, economically or environmentally.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
