Alpe Rocca : progetto di recupero e valorizzazione di un alpeggio in alta Valtellina

This thesis is a project of recovery and extension of a rural building located in Livigno, in Valtellina. This work starts from a research and analysis of the architectural history of this valley, that really impressed me and brought me to know the characteristical traits of the past, and the traditional techniques and materials. It is necessary to look at the past to work on the present, still without ignoring the possibilities that future and innovation can bring. The location of this intervention is sited at 2160 m at sea level, in Trepalle, a small fraction detached from Livigno. This village, due to its unfavourable geographical location, has always based its existence on agricultural and livestock activities, that allowed its survival even in winter season, during which the territory was isolated from the surrounding residential areas for several months. In the last years, it has risen again thanks to the masterly use of the territory, centred on tourism, maintaining a deep respect for territory and tradition. Concerning historical buildings, it is fundamental to valorize manufactured goods and, at the same time, to plan coherent interventions that should protect the uniqueness of the building object, in relation to the surrounding landscape. In this thesis, we face the recovery intervention on an already existing alm, aiming at the protection and valorization of the original traits of the tradition, linked to a strategy having the purpose to make the project site a new touristic-receptive destination for the territory. The intervention consists in the insertion of a small receptive structure finalized to the development of a farmhouse, correlated to a new building, that will be a landmark with multiple functions; indeed, through a vertical pathway, in strict connection with nature, it will be possible to distinguish the different peculiarities of the natural landscape. Wood, the local material, will be mainly employed, combined with the use of glass, that allows to make a modern revisiting of the traditional house.

La tesi proposta è un progetto di recupero ed ampliamento di un fabbricato rurale in comune di Livigno, in alta Valtellina. Il percorso nasce da una ricerca ed analisi della storia dell’architettura nella valle che mi ha appassionato e portato a conoscere i tratti caratteristici del passato, le tecniche ed i materiali della tradizione. È necessario guardare al passato per operare nel presente senza però chiudersi alle possibilità che il futuro e l’innovazione possono apportare. L’ambito di intervento è situato a 2160 metri s.l.m. a Trepalle, una piccola frazione distaccata di Livigno. Il paese, per la sua posizione geografica sfavorevole si è sempre basato su attività agricole e zootecniche che permettevano la sopravvivenza anche nel periodo invernale in cui il territorio restava isolato per diversi mesi dai nuclei abitativi circostanti. Negli ultimi anni è rinato grazie al sapiente uso che è stato fatto del territorio, incentrato sul turismo con un profondo rispetto del territorio e della tradizione. Considerando degli edifici storici è fondamentale valorizzare i manufatti e progettare contemporaneamente interventi coerenti che salvaguardino l’unicità dell’oggetto edilizio in relazione al paesaggio circostante. In questo progetto di tesi viene affrontato l’intervento di recupero della malga esistente, in un’ottica di salvaguardia dei tratti originari della tradizione, interconnesso ad una strategia finalizzata a rendere il sito di progetto una nuova meta turistica-ricettiva per il territorio. L’intervento consiste nell’inserimento di una struttura ricettiva finalizzata allo sviluppo di un agriturismo, correlata ad una nuova costruzione, che sarà un landmark dalle molteplici funzioni; tramite un percorso verticale, in stretto contatto con la natura, sarà possibile distinguere le diverse peculiarità del paesaggio naturale. Si prevede l’utilizzo del legno, materiale locale, abbinato al vetro, che garantiscono una rivisitazione in chiave moderna della dimora tradizionale.
