Due to its peculiar geographical position, between east and west Europe, the Balkans area has always been characterized by its cultural melting pot. Such condition marked the history of the Nations located in this territory, especially during the twentieth century. If the Yugoslav Federation has managed for more than forty years this lack of homogeneity, trying to attenuate the diversity through a tailored political, economic and cultural system, after its demise the situation got turned. Ethnic differences stood out and fierce nationalism was turned on. Architecture, thanks to its powerful role in society, took on great importance in shaping the identity of the country. The unbreakable bond politics-architecture is the starting point of this thesis whose purpose, therefore, is to show the metamorphosis of the former Yugoslavia in relation with the two factors above mentioned. The development of a 71 years-timeline aims to give a specific guideline relying on three basic steps: the Historical, Socio-political and Architectural context. The order of these three themes is predetermined; it aspires to provide a clear key to the interpretation, showing the influence that historical events and political decisions have had on the development of a national architectural style and how the topical problem of dwelling has been managed. Focusing, in the second place, on the topics of social housing and urban planning referring to the Croatian territory, the case study finds its raison d’être.

Abstract
Focusing, in the second place, on the topics of social housing and urban planning referring to the Croatian territory, the case study finds its raison d’être.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
