The purpose of the present work is the study and the optimization of a residential building, prefabricated with a wooden structure, identified as G-Moode. The goal is the minimization of its energy requirements and the possibility to place it in different zones in Europe, independently of the climate conditions. The project was born as a collaboration with GreenBuild, an Italian construction company, which contributed significantly by providing its wooden building construction “know-how” and assisting us in the optimization process of our improving solution. The study is structured in four parts. In the first one the main topics of prefabrication, sustainability and energy efficiency are introduced. Secondly is showed the G-Moode building in its first preliminary version, on which have been optimized both geometric variables - such as the review of the preliminary openings size and the identification of an optimal range of orientations, where the module reach its maximum energy efficiency - and technology solutions - with specific interventions made to improve performances, accelerate the site operations and minimize economic and environmental impact -. This phase ends by reaching the design values for the HVCA and photovoltaic systems. The third part contains the complete definition of all the elements of the plant system, designed in an integrated way with the building itself in order to ensure user’s comfort both in hot and cold climates. After this, we checked if the architectural and technological elements respect the different regulations. In the last part, is explored an alternative approach to the building design, raised by the elimination of some of the constraints originally imposed. The aim of the thesis is to make the reader aware of some aspects of the analysis and optimization process of a low-energy residential building, particularly the integrated design of the building-plant system. The results can be seen as a starting point for future researches.

The purpose of the present work is the study and the optimization of a residential building, prefabricated with a wooden structure, identified as G-Moode. The goal is the minimization of its energy requirements and the possibility to place it in different zones in Europe, independently of the climate conditions.
