With the emergence of Hutong 3000 years ago, the city life of Beijing changed gradually with the expansion of its quadrangles. The urban fabric of Beijing had been evolving into its modern appearance. On the one hand, the Hutong is highly related with the ideology of Chinese ancient imperial authority, which shaped the orthorhombic typology of Hutong in the early times with the consideration of climate conditions; on the other hand, the evolvement of Hutong also affected the development of the city. Since the modern time, the Hutong in Beijing has changed dramatically. With the high-speed development of the city, the area of Hutong was encroached by new constructions. The existing Hutong was also suffering illegal addition and demolition, moreover, the traditional Hutong is not capable of carrying modern life. In order to preserve the fabric of Hutong and keep the sustainable development of the community, new intervention is urgently needed. The artists' community project aims to bring in the new blood to Hutong to improve the living quality of the community and activate the life of dwellers, meanwhile, this kind of method to intervene is very crucial for keeping the historical value of the Hutong... Con l'avvento degli Hutong 3000 anni fa, la vita cittadina di Pechino è cambiata gradualmente con un'espansione a quardrangoli. Da allora il tessuto urbano di Pechino si è evoluto nel suo aspetto attuale. Da un lato, l'Hutong è fortemente legato all'ideologia dell'autorità imperiale cinese antica, che ha modellato la tipologia ortorombica degli Hutong nei tempi antichi in considerazione delle condizioni climatiche; d'altra parte, l'evoluzione degli Hutong ha influenzato anche lo sviluppo della città.
