As acknowledged by almost all the architects, architecture is far more than the mere collection of walls and floors, and more than the organization of spaces and function. On the back of those physical entities, there is something many architects named as architectural emotions, atmospheres or even soles. And interestingly, for a long time, those virtual characters aroused much interest from those architectural theorists and architects. Having noticed all the aforementioned phenomenon, this research focuses on the spirituality in the architecture, more specifically, how it was originated, inherited and developed. The research is conducted in the order of time, based on the come and go of the spirituality, and is divided into three parts, the provenance, the present and the future of the spirituality of the architecture. The following study works on analysis of the preservation and inheritance of the spirituality after the effect of the time. Overall, time scale is repeatedly discussed in the research as spirituality is a term inseparable from the time. Based on the fact that materiality lays the basis the spirituality, different preservation theories and practices are therefore developed, discussed and compared. In short, this research, starting from the essence of the architecture, tries to humanize the spirituality and explores its evolving in a life span, with an abundant reference and comparison on many related theories and practices. Such a study would give us a much better and more thorough understanding of the architecture, which would also encourages us to revisit our relations with the architecture. As the theoretical part of our thesis, this study also directly guides our interventions on a real project. It’s a project located inside a natural zone of the middle-east of Portugal and at the border with the Spain, working on the rejuvenating the whole neighborhood. Detailed designs and approaches will be illustrated in our project.

Abstract
Detailed designs and approaches will be illustrated in our project.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
