La biblioteca di Vic. Progetto di concorso per la nuova Biblioteca Centrale di Vic

On May 29, 1991, a car bomb exploded by the Basque ETA terrorist in the courtyard of Vic's Civil Guard in Catalonia, making 10 deaths and 44 wounded. Victims' families hoped that the area would host a public cultural activity and in 2016 the city would point out a competition to design the new Central Library in this area with the aim of offering a suitable service to citizens and their changing needs. The project deals with the answer to this call and at the same time it is compared with the changes that are taking place in the functions of the library and in its typology with the advent of the network and the new technologies. In a first phase of research, the typological evolution of the library in history has been studied to date by assimilating the fundamental features and novelties that are emerging. Later, design cases were identified consistent with the research results and the architectural vision of the designer. At the same time, a city-wide analysis was conducted on a different scale and from different points of view together with a study of its history in relation to the vastness of its territory, so that urban design and site characteristics can be properly interpreted . Subsequently, the planning process was started with a special focus on the insertion of the building into an urban, physical and cultural context, so that it was in continuity with the existing and open and permeable towards the users, and careful care of the Design of the interior spaces, in order to obtain a complex, lively and welcoming body at the same time, able to offer a wide range of heterogeneity of individual environments, as well as multiple possibilities of movement and synergies between the various functions. At the center of reflections is first and foremost for the user and his perception of light and space. The tools used were mainly plants and sections along with views and sketches that allowed time to study and identify the features considered most important to the library. The result is a strongly characterized building, an icon of the neighborhood that is deeply tied to it, with articulated and comfortable spaces suitable for hosting today's functions and giving its users a varied and rich experience.

Il 29 maggio 1991 un’autobomba è fatta esplodere dal gruppo terroristico basco ETA nel cortile della Guardia Civil di Vic in Catalogna facendo 10 morti e 44 feriti. I familiari delle vittime auspicarono che l’area ospitasse un’attività culturale pubblica e nel 2016 la città indice un concorso per progettare su quest’area la nuova Biblioteca Centrale con l’obiettivo di offrire un servizio adeguato ai cittadini e alle loro necessità mutevoli. Il progetto si occupa di dare risposta a questo bando e al contempo si confronta con i cambiamenti che stanno avvenendo nelle funzioni della biblioteca e nella sua tipologia con l’avvento della Rete e delle nuove tecnologie. In una prima fase di ricerca è stata studiata l’evoluzione tipologica della biblioteca nella storia fino ad oggi assimilando le caratteristiche fondamentali e le novità che stanno emergendo. In seguito sono stati individuati casi progettuali coerenti coi risultati della ricerca e con la visione architettonica del progettista. Parallelamente è stata condotta un analisi della città a diverse scale e da differenti punti di vista unita ad uno studio della sua storia in relazione anche al territorio più vasto d’appartenenza, per permettere di interpretare correttamente il disegno urbano e le caratteristiche del luogo. Nella progettazione è stata data particolare attenzione all’inserimento dell’edificio nel contesto urbano, fisico e culturale, facendo sì che fosse in continuità con l’esistente e permeabile con l'esterno, e cura attenta del disegno degli spazi interni, al fine di ottenere un organismo complesso, movimentato e accogliente al tempo stesso, capace di offrire sia vasta eterogeneità dei singoli ambienti sia molteplici possibilità di spostamento e di sinergie tra le varie funzioni. Al centro delle riflessioni è prima di tutto sempre l’utente e la sua percezione della luce e dello spazio. Gli strumenti utilizzati sono stati principalmente piante e sezioni insieme a viste e schizzi che hanno nel tempo permesso di studiare e individuare le caratteristiche ritenute più importanti per la biblioteca. Il risultato è un edificio fortemente caratterizzato, icona del quartiere d’appartenenza e ad esso profondamente legato, dotato di spazi articolati e confortevoli adatti ad ospitare le funzioni odierne e a regalare agli utenti uno spazio variegato e ricco di offerta esperienziale.
