A novel method for quantifying robustness to parameter variation of a nominal behavior of a nonlinear dynamical system is presented. The method relies on the combination of bifurcation analysis and Monte-Carlo techniques, providing a region in the parameter space where, with a chosen statistical confidence, the nominal behavior is guaranteed to exist and to be asymptotically stable. In particular, our test exploits numerical continuation to accurately follow the nominal behavior as parameters are changed. The proposed method is computationally efficient and can be applied to any ODE dynamical model, works both for stationary or periodic nominal behaviors, and fully exploit the complex phenomena governing the structural stability of a nonlinear model, i.e. it qualitatively changing its asymptotic behavior. The proposed method is applied to a few examples of biological systems, and the results are compared with those obtained by other methods available in the literature.

Abstract
The proposed method is applied to a few examples of biological systems, and the results are compared with those obtained by other methods available in the literature.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
