In this project, we analyse the impact of a helium (He) hazard inside the CERN LHC tunnel built across the border between Switzerland and France nearby the city of Genève. Starting from scratch, with the help of a CFD tool (FLUENT), we evaluate the importance of each parameter involved with a sensitive analysis, furthermore we compare it with the results of a series of mock up tests. Finally we discuss the possible causes of differences between the two and suggest future improvements.

Abstract
In this project, we analyse the impact of a helium (He) hazard inside the CERN LHC tunnel built across the border between Switzerland and France nearby the city of Genève. Starting from scratch, with the help of a CFD tool (FLUENT), we evaluate the importance of each parameter involved with a sensitive analysis, furthermore we compare it with the results of a series of mock up tests. Finally we discuss the possible causes of differences between the two and suggest future improvements.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
