In this thesis, we investigate the numerical solution of subsurface flow problem for hydraulic conductivity fields showing a Generalized SubGaussian probability distribution. Usually, in geostatistics, probability distribution for the variable Y=log(K), where K is the hydraulic conductivity, is assumed to be Gaussian, since it is defined with just two statistical moments i.e. mean and variance. The Generalized SubGaussian model aims to reconcile the statistical Y distribution with those of its spatial increments ΔY. Whereas distributions of Y are at times slightly asymmetric with relatively mild peaks and tails, those of ΔY tend to be symmetric with peaks that grow sharper, and tails that become heavier, as the separation distance between pairs of Y values decreases. Several random realizations of Generalized SubGaussian fields have been generated numerically, with a defined value of mean and variance for the variable Y, using a Fortran generation code. These realizations have been used to solve a Montecarlo problem of subsurface flow, in order to study the statistical moments of flow velocity, and their behavior, applying a sensitivity analysis changing the main parameters that define mathematically a Generalized SubGaussian field.

Abstract
These realizations have been used to solve a Montecarlo problem of subsurface flow, in order to study the statistical moments of flow velocity, and their behavior, applying a sensitivity analysis changing the main parameters that define mathematically a Generalized SubGaussian field.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
