The hand-weaving craft of Biandanshan 扁担山 (Guizhou, China) since its very beginning has been a form of art, manufactured with patience and a great deal of time by the women of the village that have been weaving textiles for their own clothes, houses and families for centuries. Since these skills has been passed down from generation to generations in time, today we recognize the tangible and especially the intangible value assigned to these practices of heritage. However, this knowledge is now disappearing, as disappearing are the villagers of towns like Biandanshan, migrating to bigger and industrialized cities in the pursuit of a better life. Furthermore the crafts are now becoming a commodification, losing the initial proprieties of the handmade manufacture and this is increasing the vulnerability of this good. Given the emerging global markets and trends, these intangible practices represent a true potential to be a viable and feasible resource, base of a future sustainable development. How can the values that the handcrafted work transmits be valorised and preserved engaging the audience of modern world interests? Can craft be the medium for a future inclusion of the artisans that produces them? The study sought to identify the cultural relevance embedded in the Buyi weaving craft, establishing how this culture can be preserved through cultural initiatives and service strategies that applies a combination of mixed methods suggested by Service Design & Interior Design disciplines, giving back a final output that responds to the findings of the research. The handicraft culture becomes the initiator, the excuse to interact with the audience of the city through the showcase of an extraordinary and precious heritage in a valorization of the undocumented and under-represented artisanal tradition. The result is an event-laboratory, and with it the creation of participated experiences between the visitor and the weavers that hold the laboratories. Therefore, the weaving practices of the Buyi minority assume the central educational node of the project that wants to create a bridge between the modern environment and the role of the artisan, conceiving an experience that joins the two cultures and the two worlds, enabling different communities. The final intent is not only to preserve and valorise the intangible tradition, but also to give birth to new synergies starting from a first initial event, to create and share the achieved knowledge and lay the basis for future collaborations and projects.
La cultura artigianale nel villaggio di Biandanshan (Guizhou, Cina) fin dall'inizio è stata una forma d'arte, prodotta con pazienza e tempo dalle donne del villaggio che da secoli tessono per i propri abiti, case e famiglie. Dal momento in cui queste abilità sono state tramandate di generazione in generazione nel tempo, oggi riconosciamo il valore tangibile e soprattutto quello immateriale assegnato a queste pratiche di eredità culturale. Tuttavia, questa eredità oggi sta scomparendo, come stanno scomparendo gli abitanti dei villaggi come quello di Biandanshan, per migrare verso città più grandi e industrializzate della Cina; inoltre con la crescita della richiesta dei prodotti tradizionali, si assiste ogni giorno di più ad un incremento dei processi d’industrializzazione, facendo sì che i prodotti vadano a perdere le proprietà intrinseche date della fabbricazione artigianale, aumentando la vulnerabilità di questo bene. Considerato il mercato e le tendenze emergenti del settore tessile in Cina, queste pratiche immateriali rappresentano un vero potenziale per essere una risorsa vitale, base di uno sviluppo sostenibile futuro del villaggio. Come valorizzare e preservare i valori che il lavoro artigianale trasmette, attirando l’attenzione di un pubblico contemporaneo? Possono le pratiche artigianali rappresentare il medium di una futura inclusione di questi artigiani? Lo studio ha cercato di identificare la rilevanza culturale incorporata alle pratiche artigianali della minoranza Cinese Buyi, stabilendo come questa cultura possa essere preservata attraverso una combinazione tra evento e servizio; restituendo un output che prende in considerazione metodi misti suggeriti dalle discipline di Interior Design e Product Service System Design. La cultura artigianale così diventa l'iniziatore, la scusa per un interazione con il pubblico della città attraverso la messinscena di un patrimonio straordinario e prezioso in una valorizzazione della tradizione artigianale fino ad ora poco documentata e rappresentata. Il risultato è un evento-laboratorio, e con esso si assiste alla creazione di esperienze partecipate tra il visitatore e i tessitori del villaggio, protagonisti dell’evento. Le pratiche di tessitura della minoranza Buyi, pertanto, assumono il nodo centrale educativo del progetto che vuole creare un ponte tra l'ambiente moderno e il ruolo dell'artigiano, concependo un'esperienza che unisce le due culture ei due mondi, generando nuove comunità creative. L'intento finale non è solo quello di preservare e valorizzare la tradizione immateriale, ma anche di dare origine a nuove sinergie, muovendo da un primo evento iniziale, per creare e condividere una conoscenza acquisita e fondando le basi per future collaborazioni e progetti.
