The thesis presents a summary of the main steps related to the construction of Line M4 in the subway system in Milan. The constructive techniques adopted for the excavation of the main tunnels, of some stations and of the service tunnels will be presented. In particular some technical aspects concerning both the mechanized excavation by means of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) and the traditional procedure will be discussed. The presentation will focus also on the grouting treatments necessary to support the non cohesive soil in advance to the construction of the diaphragm walls in the subway stations.
