In the context of my internship in a society affiliate with NextFarm, a company selling hemp-based food products with the goal to create a direct contact between the agricultural producer and the final consumer, it was asked me to identify an optimal mix to use hemp scarps for the creation of a construction product with competitive performances in respect to analogous materials currently present in the Italian market. The different uses of hemp sub-products in architecture were therefore investigated, together with the existing marketized hemp-based products, leading to the decision of focusing the attention on the hempcrete blocks. All the realities linked to these materials were analyzed in order to collect informations for the subsequent realization of blocks prototypes. Due to problems encountered during the production and to the will to improve the product, further investigations were undertaken with the final goal of definition of guidelines for product prototyping, design and maintenance during production, construction and use phase. To reach this result, the material was analyzed under different aspects: starting from the highlighting of the material properties and of the legislation related to them, an overview of the construction solutions involving hempcrete blocks was presented. Different existing studies developed on the hempcrete compound were then analyzed to define the most suitable raw materials and the principal degradation phenomena and failures which can affect the biocomposite.
Questo elaborato nasce dalla collaborazione con una piccola realtà cremasca che ha deciso di investire nella canapa. L’elaborato parte da una caratterizzazione della pianta della cannabis, sottolineando le ragioni per le quali essa rappresenti un investimento, delineandone le proprietà e gli utilizzi. Particolare attenzione viene posta sugli utilizzi in campo edile, definendone i prodotti derivati ed in particolare soffermandosi sul connubio tra il canapulo, parte legnosa della pianta della canapa, e la calce. Questa unione dà vita ad un biocomposto già utilizzato in passato per la costruzione di edifici e ponti, ecologico e con elevate prestazioni termiche e igrometriche. In particolare, vengono indagati i blocchi realizzati in calcecanapulo, per i quali viene esposta la mia personale esperienza di realizzazione di prototipi. Scopo dell’elaborato è la definizione di linee-guida per una corretta prototipazione, progettazione e manutenzione di questi elementi al fine di garantirne la durabilità nel tempo.
