Purpose - In the last years, companies have been leaning towards the adoption of Supply Chain Finance (SCF) solutions, in response to an increased uncertainty and financial instability of modern supply chains. Among these solutions, Dynamic Discounting (DD) is growing in importance, being one of the most innovative. The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive analysis about the different versions available of this solution, how they differ from each other and how a corporation can select the most suitable one, according to its specific business environment. Design, methodology and approach - Coherently with its explorative nature, this investigation adopts a multiple case studies methodology, analysing 9 case studies of service providers and buyers. Data have been collected mainly through direct interviews and integrated through secondary sources. Findings - The main findings of this dissertation are (1) the identification and detailed description of the four Dynamic Discounting archetypes currently available on the market; (2) the creation of a practical tool, named Decision Tree, which helps managers during the decision making process of selecting the most appropriate DD archetype; (3) the development of four quantitative models, which allow the buyer to assess the potential benefits that arise from the implementation of each specific version. Theoretical and managerial implications - This study provides a theory-building contribution on the Dynamic Discounting solution and on the definition of an effective SCF strategy for corporations. Practical tools have been developed bearing in mind that real-world companies’ managers are the main beneficiaries of such findings: by exploiting these instruments, practitioners are able to adopt the Dynamic Discounting version that best matches their needs. Future research - Future research should be focused on enlarging the pool of companies to be interviewed, including both buyers, who are actively customers of the service providers already addressed, and suppliers. Finally, since the whole SCF market is a changeable and continuously growing environment, it is necessary to keep monitoring the offer and perform a periodical update in order to be able to identify new meaningful DD archetypes that may arise.

Abstract
Finally, since the whole SCF market is a changeable and continuously growing environment, it is necessary to keep monitoring the offer and perform a periodical update in order to be able to identify new meaningful DD archetypes that may arise.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
