Redevelopment of ancient Hongcun Village. A new mode for elder nursing and interactive tourism

Hongcun village, Located in the Anhui Province of south-east China, faced the same issues that all those ancient villages developed into tourism spot in China have been facing: the dilemma between tourism and local culture. On one hand, as many precedents showed, the over development of tourism will turn the village into completely a museum, within which only the physical beings left, while the intangible heritages: culture, local life style, residents, handcrafts, have been led to loss. However on the other hand, the local culture, if without any countermeasure, is facing challenges itself: the destruction of old building, the failing of traditional industry, the urbanisation causing the loss of young population and therefor, the ageing. In this thesis, I tried to find a balance between over development and passive abandonment, creating a interaction between the residents and outsiders based on the local culture and traditional legacies. In this case of Hongcun, I choose elderly residents and young tourists as the connecting point of the whole story, trying to introduce a special mode of management and architectural design to interact these two group, and gradually, start from the two group to the general residents and visitors.

Il villaggio di Hongcun, situato nella provincia di Anhui del sud-est della Cina, ha affrontato gli stessi problemi che tutti quegli antichi villaggi si sono sviluppati in località turistiche in Cina: il dilemma tra turismo e cultura locale. Da un lato, come dimostrato da molti precedenti, l'eccesso di sviluppo del turismo trasformerà il villaggio in un museo in cui sono rimasti solo gli esseri fisici, mentre le patrie intangibili: cultura, stile di vita locale, abitanti, artigianato sono stati portati a perdita. D'altra parte, la cultura locale, se senza alcuna contromisure, si trova ad affrontare le sfide: la distruzione dell'antico edificio, l'insuccesso dell'industria tradizionale, l'urbanizzazione che causa la perdita di una giovane popolazione e per questo l'invecchiamento. In questa tesi ho cercato di trovare un equilibrio tra lo sviluppo e l'abbandono passivo, creando un'interazione tra i residenti e gli estranei basati sulla cultura locale e sui tradizionali legati. In questo caso di Hongcun scelgo i residenti anziani ei giovani turisti come punto di connessione di tutta la storia, cercando di introdurre un modo speciale di gestione e progettazione architettonica per interagire questi due gruppi e gradualmente, partendo dai due gruppi al generale residenti e visitatori.
