Influence of reporting tools in corporate supply chain and inventory management

We are living in a globalized world so it makes sense that more and more business is developing an international supply chain and inventory management to take advantages of its many benefits. One of the basic objectives of Supply Chain Management is to make sure that all the activities and functions within as well as across the company are managed efficiently. The most fundamental role that inventory plays in supply chain is that of facilitating the balancing of demand and supply. Firms must deal with upstream supplier exchanges and downstream customer demands. This balanced is often achieved through inventory management. Prysmian Group created through the merge of Prysmian and Draka is the world leader in cable manufacturer, energy solutions and telecom cables headquartered in Milan. The company is linking the world with the cable technology through operations in 50 countries and 82 plants. This thesis report is the result of an internship in Prysmian Group and the aim of this thesis to explore and analyze the Companies Supply Chain activities and Inventory management. This report covers reporting internship activities in Prysmian on its Supply Chain Department. The thesis report begins with the objectives of the internship that was performed at Prysmian and the company introduction. In the second chapter Supply Chain Departments activities, roles and responsibilities are clarified. Then importance of Logistic Reporting has been analyzed, main reporting tools and management plans are explained. In chapter 4 Inventory management methods and performance improvements methods are defined. In Chapter 5 study on impact and support of these reporting tools effect on the managerial and strategic level have been is made. Under the light of these points, activities and researches that have been deployed are stated in the conclusion chapter to underline the vital support of reporting.

Viviamo in un mondo globalizzato, per cui ha senso che sempre più imprese stanno sviluppando una catena di approvvigionamento internazionale e gestione delle scorte per trarre vantaggio dai suoi molti vantaggi. Uno degli obiettivi fondamentali del Supply Chain Management è quello di assicurarsi che tutte le attività e le funzioni all'interno dell'azienda siano gestite in modo efficiente. Il ruolo più fondamentale che le scorte svolgono nella catena di approvvigionamento è quello di facilitare l'equilibrio della domanda e dell'offerta. Le imprese devono affrontare gli scambi di fornitori a valle e le richieste dei clienti a valle. Questo equilibrato è spesso ottenuto attraverso la gestione delle scorte. Il gruppo Prysmian creato attraverso la fusione di Prysmian e Draka è leader mondiale nel settore dei produttori di cavi, soluzioni energetiche e cavi di telecomunicazioni con sede a Milano. L'azienda sta collegando il mondo alla tecnologia via cavo attraverso operazioni in 50 paesi e 82 impianti. Questo report è il risultato di un tirocinio nel gruppo Prysmian e l'obiettivo di questa tesi di esplorare e analizzare le attività di Supply Chain delle aziende e la gestione delle scorte. Questo report riguarda la segnalazione di attività di tirocinio a Prysmian sul suo reparto Supply Chain. Il report è così organizzato: nella parte iniziare solo presentati gli obiettivi dello stage che è stato svolto in Prysmian un’introduzione sull’azienda. Nel secondo capitolo vengono chiarite le attività, i ruoli e le responsabilità dei dipartimenti Supply Chain. É stata quindi analizzata l'importanza del Reporting Logistico, sono stati spiegati i principali strumenti di reporting e piani di gestione. Nel capitolo 4 vengono definiti i metodi di gestione delle scorte e i metodi di miglioramento delle prestazioni. Nel capitolo 5 sono stati commentati gli impatti e il supporto di questi strumenti di reporting sul piano manageriale e strategico. Alla luce di questi punti, le attività e le ricerche su cui si è basato il tirocino sono sintetizzate nel capitolo di conclusione per sottolineare il sostegno vitale del reporting
