The Pharmaceutical Industry is a sector of paramount relevance, both from a social point of view, because it deals with the health of patients, and from an economical one, since it has experienced a great deal of progress over the last decade. Italy is the second pharmaceutical producer in UE and aspires to become the first in the medium term. The need to provide high promptness and timeliness of deliveries and availability of goods has led companies belonging to this sector to focus on Digitalization, in order to obtain improvements in terms of both efficiency and effectiveness. The aim of this research is to measure the diffusion of Digitalization solutions for e-Supply Chain Management among the actors of the Italian pharmaceutical Supply Chain, comparing the Digitalization degree of different companies, investigating the opportunities offered by the projects that have been developed and evaluating the related benefits and criticalities. Furthermore, the latest initiatives in terms of Digitalization of processes are deepened to identify their effects and the trends for future development. This graduate work has been carried out within the research activities of “Osservatorio Fatturazione Elettronica & eCommerce B2b”, a research group of the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano. The methodological approach adopted for this study has been characterized by three main stages. The starting point has been represented by the Literature review, which has been fundamental to understand the level of knowledge developed so far for the themes under analysis. Then, the Empirical analysis, performed by means of direct interviews with company representatives and subsequently through the writing of structured case histories, has allowed to deepen the solutions adopted for e-Supply Chain Management in the Italian Pharmaceutical Supply Chain. Finally, the gathered information has been analysed and elaborated to obtain the findings and results of this research work.
