The subject of the proposed thesis is the building of the former Theatre-Cinema Guido in Suzzara (MN), its life cycle and the role for the city, retraced through historical research, and a design hypothesis of adaptive reuse. In the course of the development of the work, the building analysis and the territorial and social context research led to a gradual regeneration strategy proposal for the former Guido Theatre-Cinema, which provides for the adaptation of the building to security and accessibility requirements, combined with the new cultural-music centre functions' placement. The work consists of two phases: historical investigations and project hypotheses. In the first one, the urban and cultural context are studied as well as the social and artistic events that accompanied the birth and the various periods of the existence of the Theatre. The particular attention is payed to the figure of the designer, Francesco Piazzalunga, and to the role of the Theatre in the cultural life of Suzzara and of the province. The study then focuses on the issues and criticalities that have led the building to the current state of abandonment, investigating the distributive, constructive and preservation aspects of the building. The second part of the thesis proposes a strategy for resolving these critical issues and for restoring the former Theatre, aimed at bringing the building back to the city and linking it to the urban and cultural context through project interventions accompanied by reuse proposals. The ex-theatre building, transformed into a multipurpose artistic and musical space linked to the Piazzalunga Suzzara Culture Centre through the upgraded open space of the adjoining square would form a new cultural pole for the city.
L’oggetto della tesi proposta è l’edificio dell’ex Teatro-Cinema Guido di Suzzara (MN), il suo ciclo di vita e il ruolo per la città, ritracciati attraverso la ricerca storica, e un’ipotesi progettuale di riuso adattivo. Nel percorso di sviluppo del lavoro le analisi del manufatto e del contesto territoriale e sociale hanno portato ad una proposta di una strategia di recupero graduale dell’ex Teatro-Cinema Guido, che prevede l’adattamento dell’edificio alle richieste di sicurezza e di accessibilità, affiancato all’inserimento delle nuove funzioni del centro culturale-musicale. Il lavoro si articola in due fasi: le indagini storiche e le ipotesi progettuali. Nella prima viene esaminato il contesto urbano e culturale, le vicende sociali ed artistiche che accompagnarono la nascita ed i vari periodi dell’esistenza del Teatro, con particolare attenzione alla figura del progettista, l’ing. Francesco Piazzalunga, e al ruolo del Teatro nella vita culturale Suzzarese e della Provincia. Lo studio si concentra poi sulle problematiche e le criticità che hanno portato l’edificio all’attuale stato di abbandono, indagando gli aspetti distributivi, costruttivi e della conservazione del manufatto. Nella seconda parte della tesi si propone una strategia di risoluzione di queste criticità e di recupero dell’ex Teatro, finalizzata a ripristinare l’edificio alla città e a ricollegarlo al contesto urbano e culturale attraverso gli interventi progettuali accompagnati dalle proposte di riuso. Il fabbricato dell’ex Teatro, trasformato in uno spazio artistico-musicale polivalente, viene collegato al Centro Cultura Piazzalunga Suzzara attraverso il riqualificato spazio aperto della piazza adiacente, formando un nuovo polo culturale per la città.
