New centrality in Shumen, Bulgaria. Revitalising an old area and keeping the memory of the past

The project idea is to revitalise an old and abandoned area of the city, also to introduce the importance of a public space. The most recent defining moment for the bulgarian architecture is the comunisitc regime, which has left us with many cultural historical monuments with heavy concrete constructions, but at the same time with many unused and unfinished buildings, which the new generation of architects are trying in the most respectfull and contemporary way. The aim of the proposal I am working on is to keep the main appearance of the building , as a memory of very important period for the Bulgarian nataion, but to redifine the insides. Moreover, outsides as a momorial , and insides as a sign of a the new beginning. Shumen is in the North East part of Bulgaria and the 10th biggest city. The region is a cultural and historical center, cinsisting of two old country capitals in very short distance, many museums and for the last 30 years on the highest point in Shumen we are looking at the monument of “1300 years of establishing Bulgaria”. Since, the whole county has been going through the transition of becoming a democratic country in the last 28 years, so as the architectural appearance and understanding of how influencial it is on the people`s life.

L'idea del progetto è rivitalizzare un'antica e abbandonata area della città, anche per introdurre l'importanza di uno spazio pubblico. Il momento più recente per l'architettura bulgara è il regime comunisitc che ci ha lasciato molti monumenti storici culturali con forti costruzioni in calcestruzzo, ma allo stesso tempo con molti edifici inutilizzati e incompiuti, che la nuova generazione di architetti cerca nel più rispettoso e contemporaneo. Lo scopo della proposta che sto lavorando è quello di mantenere l'aspetto principale dell'edificio, come ricordo di un periodo molto importante per la nazione bulgara, ma per ridisegnare gli interni. Inoltre, gli esterni come un elemento paterno e insidioso come segno di un nuovo inizio. Shumen è nella parte nordorientale della Bulgaria e la 10a città più grande. La regione è un centro culturale e storico, cinsisting di due vecchi capitali di campagna a breve distanza, molti musei e negli ultimi 30 anni sul punto più alto di Shumen stiamo guardando il monumento di "1300 anni di stabilimento della Bulgaria". Dal momento che l'intera contea sta attraversando la transizione di diventare un paese democratico negli ultimi 28 anni, così come l'aspetto architettonico e la comprensione di quanto influenza sia sulla vita delle persone.
