LCity hub. Polo dell'innovazione per la città di Lecco

The proposal of a Technological Hub for Lecco was born in the first place from the idea that the revamp of the city should be linked to that manufacturing vocation that historically shaped both its territory and culture making it able to become, during the 20th century , the center of one of Italy’s main industrial districts and one of the most productive cities in Europe: the main objective of the project is to seize a new great opportunity for the revamp of the territory by establishing processes that promote the interaction between the manufactures of excellence of Lecco and the new research and innovation potential represented by Politecnico di Milano and the National Research Council. The applicability of this model of development based on a close interplay between research and companies has been investigated on the one hand through an in-depth analysis of the context of Lecco in terms of consistency and needs of his industrial district, and on the other through a study of the role of tech hubs in the innovation processes and their impact on the contexts in which they operate in socio-economic terms; This study was first performed by analyzing the main european and north american experiences and then focusing on the Italian context by arranging the most important national tech hubs. The results of these studies were then applied to a specific case in the territory of Lecco, under the contest Recovery of the former area of Biokosmes: a new hinge for the city of Lecco concerning the recovery and reuse of a former industrial complex in a wider perspective of regenerating brownfield sites and reinstating the continuity of urban fabric: this leads to LCity Hub, a complex project that have the ambitious aim of fostering the development of an innovation district, by converting an area of marginal importance for the urban environment into a new cornerstone for the city, able to address a wide range of users in order to realize that connection between innovation and territory that is the true objective of this work. During the design process, an important challenge was to develop the theme of innovation also through the constructive aspects of the project, by the development and the implementation of an integrated prefab structure-coating system designed to meet the needs of the modern work environments designed in the project; this solution has been developed item by item in terms of technology and structural and energy efficiency logics. Feasibility studies have also been carried out analyzing the various aspects of the proposed solution, from production to construction site set-up, with the aim of verifying their forcefulness in economic and ergonomic terms.

La proposta di un Hub tecnologico per la città di Lecco nasce in prima battuta dall’idea che per rilanciare il contesto lecchese si debba attingere a quella vocazione manifatturiera che storicamente ne ha plasmato il territorio e la cultura, rendendola capace di diventare, durante il Ventesimo secolo, il centro di uno dei principali distretti industriali italiani e una delle città più produttive in Europa: l’obiettivo principale del progetto è quello di cogliere una nuova grande opportunità di rinnovamento per il territorio, instaurando processi che favoriscano l’interazione tra le eccellenze del sistema produttivo lecchese e il nuovo potenziale di ricerca e innovazione rappresentato dal Politecnico di Milano e dal Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche. L’applicabilità di tale modello di sviluppo, basato sulla stretta interazione tra ricerca e imprese, è stata indagata da una parte attraverso un’approfondita analisi del contesto lecchese in termini di consistenza ed esigenze del distretto industriale, e dall’altra attraverso uno studio del ruolo dei poli tecnologici nei processi di innovazione e del loro impatto in termini socio-economici sui contesti in cui operano; questa analisi è stata eseguita dapprima tramite un inquadramento delle principali esperienze europee e statunitensi e successivamente concentrandosi sul caso italiano tramite una schedatura e catalogazione dei più importanti poli tecnologici nel panorama nazionale. I risultati di questi studi sono stati successivamente applicati ad un caso concreto sul territorio lecchese, nell’ambito del concorso Recupero dell’ex area Biokosmes: nuova cerniera per ricucire la città di Lecco, riguardante il recupero e la rifunzionalizzazione di un ex complesso industriale in un’ottica più ampia di riconversione dei siti produttivi dismessi e ripristino della continuità del tessuto urbano: nasce così LCity Hub, un progetto complesso che si pone l’ambizioso obiettivo di favorire lo sviluppo di un distretto dell’innovazione lecchese, riconvertendo un’area di rilevanza marginale per il contesto urbano a nuovo fulcro per la città, in grado di rivolgersi ad un ampio ventaglio di utenze, al fine di realizzare quella connessione tra innovazione e territorio che è il vero obiettivo del presente lavoro di Tesi. Durante la progettazione ci si è posti la sfida di sviluppare il tema dell’innovazione anche attraverso gli aspetti costruttivi del progetto, con lo studio e l’applicazione di un sistema struttura- rivestimento integrato e prefabbricato, concepito ad hoc per rispondere alle esigenze dei moderni ambienti di lavoro proposti per l’hub; tale soluzione è stata sviluppata in dettaglio negli aspetti tecnologici, strutturali e di ottimizzazione energetica. Sono stati inoltre eseguiti degli studi di fattibilità che hanno analizzato i vari aspetti della soluzione proposta, dalla produzione alla cantierizzazione, con l’obiettivo di verificarne la validità in termini economici ed ergotecnici.
