Upcycling. Merging new sustainable methods

The core of my thesis is sustainability. It looks into the matter of fair trade, green design and new techniques for garment construction. For my work I chose to work with the method of Upcycling. That means I select old materials, in my case second hand clothes, put them together and make something new. My thesis starts with research on how the term of sustainability was introduced through the years and how it is developed. Moreover, my first chapters also give us a look of the use of second hand clothing from the time of Renaissance till now. After this research, I got inspired to combine second hand clothing with new sustainable fabrics. In my thesis, I discuss also the matter of fast fashion, the negative impact it has in our society and how the fashion industry reacted. There are examples of fashion designers that work with eco-friendly methods and also there is analysis of the cost of sustainable fashion. Later on, my thesis goes in further explanation of my project and what is my concept. It has rich imagery of how pieces of my garments detach and you can do different combinations. There is technical information for the sustainable fabrics and shows how I put together the old garments with these fabrics.

L’argomento principale della mia tesi è la sostenibilità. Ho approfondito i temi del fairtrade, green design e le nuove tecnologie per la costruzione dei vestiti. Per il mio lavoro ho scelto di usare la tecnica di Upcycling. Seleziono dei materiali già usati, nel mio caso vestiti vintage, li assemblo e creo qualcosa di nuovo. La mia tesi è iniziata dalla mia ricerca sulle origini della sostenibilità e il suo sviluppamento durante gli anni. Inoltre, i miei primi capitoli presentano la storia dei vestiti vintage dalla Rinascente fino ad adesso. Nella mia tesi, discuto del tema del fast fashion, il suo impatto negativo sulla nostra società e come l’industria della moda ha reagito. Ci sono degli esempi di designer di moda che lavorano con metodi eco-friendly, c’è anche un’analisi del costo della moda sostenibile. Poi, la mia tesi chiarisce il moi progetto e il mio concetto. Ho cercato di dimostrare con immagine come i pezzi dei miei vestiti possono taccarsi e creare combinazioni diverse. Ci sono informazioni tecniche per le stoffe sostenibili e per spiegare come io ho messo insieme i vecchi indumenti con queste stoffe.
