Despite the fact that the role of design has changed dramatically during the last years, in Cyprus the design situation can be considered behind the times. In the new competitive landscape innovation is significant for the survival of national economies and consequently design has been recognized as a key driver for innovation. Therefore, Design Policies are aiming to encourage the effective use of design by enhancing the development of national design innovation ecosystems. This project aims to increase the awareness of design value in Cyprus, by empowering its design innovation ecosystem. The current demand for design is limited so there is the need to support design actors, sector and users to apply design thinking and user centred design in multidisciplinary projects. In order to achieve this, this thesis develops a strategy and a plan to establish a Cyprus Design Centre. Based on a desk research on design policies, design innovation ecosystems, and the socioeconomic, politic and design context of Cyprus, two main objectives were defined: 1) to articulate a strategy to improve the interaction among key stakeholders; and 2) to plan the kind of activities needed to promote design value. The design research methodology consisted mainly in desk research, expert interviews and case studies: - desk research: Benchmarking on the worldwide design organization landscape, European Design policy, typologies and offerings of the promotional organizations, History of Design promotion. - expert interviews: Marzia Mortati: Design for Europe program - case studies: to give more Estonia Design Centre _ Jane Oblikas; KEPA (Hellenic design centre) _ Christina Skoumbridou; Romanian Design Council _ Emilian Cartis. The emerged concept of the Cyprus Design Centre, has been articulated in two main parts: the strategy for its implementation, by finding the right collaborations to start it and engage them in the best way possible. The second part is the programme of activities, that falls under two stages, the pre-establishment and the establishment phase, with the data collection activity being fundamental in both stages, ensuring also its sustainability. This concept has been then discussed and evaluated within the design innovation ecosystem and more particularly with representatives of the design actors and design professional sector.
– interviste ad esperti: Marzia Mortati: programma ''Design for Europe''. - casi studio: “Estonia Design Centre”, “KEPA” (Hellenic design centre), Christina Skoumbridou, “Romanian Design Council”, Emilian Cartis.

Abstract
This concept has been then discussed and evaluated within the design innovation ecosystem and more particularly with representatives of the design actors and design professional sector.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
