Abstract
Nowadays, the increasing competitive pressures and market globalization are forcing firms to develop supply chains that can manage in effective way a series of issues such as product variety, cost and time minimization and quality improvements. On the one hand, product modularity is used by manufacturers to standardize, share and reuse components in order to increase product variety, reduce production costs and lead time. On the other hand, proper decisions on supply chain design can help to improve the overall firm performances. Several studies demonstrated the benefits of conjoint decisions about product modularity and supply chain design, especially focusing on buyer-supplier relationships. Nevertheless, the current economic context and the strong competitive pressures that companies are facing make it necessary to concentrate on more complex relational dynamics. Few studies have examined the effect of triadic configurations on supply chain performances in a product modularization environment; therefore, the objective of this study is to analyse the existing triads in such context, taking into consideration the influence of some contingency variables on the relationship in order to define the impact on the final product KPIs. The methodology adopted is a multiple case study conducted in the industrial electronics sector. The research provides evidence of the benefits for the buyer to establish a collaborative relationship with its suppliers and, concurrently, foster a cooperation between them. The purpose is to offer a support for companies manufacturing modular products to understand what are the conditions that favour a collaboration with the actors of the triad.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
