With the rising threat of attacks that our data is facing online, implementing secure systems that ensure the confidentiality and integrity of our communications has become a priority in the design of today’s systems. The users of PrivateWave have been lacking a key feature to complement the ability to make secure voice calls and send encrypted text messages that is offered by the application; exchanging files securely. Therefore, we decided to develop a system allowing them to send end-to-end encrypted files to one another from within the application. This thesis discusses the implementation details of this feature into PrivateWave’s Android client. By carefully analysing the current applications in use and choosing encryption algorithms that fit our needs, we developed a system that meets the specified requirements of our users while keeping security as its number one concern.
