Walking is one of the most common and simplest actions performed by the majority of the people: unfortunately, this action is not simple for all those people which suffer of whatever limit, deficit or disability. Right now, some devices able to provide help in walking exist on the market. The most developed ones are the exoskeletons, which are very big and bulky: now-a-days, the research is moving towards the development of a new type of devices, less bulky, able to provide help in walking by actuating one or more than one articulation. Starting from the project of a knee active orthosis, addressed to people with muscular deficit in plane walking, purpose of my thesis work is to go on with the project, defining the walk angle’s measurement system (hip and knee) for the control system, realizing the prototype for such measurements and performing the related tests. This control logic, which I hypothesized, involves a phase of data acquisition from the patient and post processing, in order to obtain a reference pattern (to be used in the closed loop control system); after that, the definition of the validation procedure of the reference pattern is the second phase. Last phase is the supposition of the closed loop system to be actuated during the walking, aimed to introduce the topic for a more detailed study from a person skilled in the art. Concerning the experimental tests, my job will be focused on the acquisition of walk angles patterns to study the kinematics of walking movements of different subjects. To do so, the physical realization of the prototype without engine and transmission will be performed, since this device will be used for the data acquisition. It will be a way also to review the control proposal and to test the feasibility and the ergonomy of the structure of the orthosis itself. The device will be tested on a number of patients in different conditions, in order to check the ability of the measurements system to work well independently from the patient’s situation.
