Luxury Hotel Arconati. An abstract model of luxury hotel today and repurposing Villa Arconati as a luxury hotel

The aim of this thesis was to investigate the current scene and clarify the changing direction of luxury hotel design, to create an abstract model and design Villa Arconati as the project phase. Today the luxury tourism market is developing swiftly. Luxury travellers are now looking for unique tourism and hospitality products and services compared to the past and the market is focusing more and more on the travellers’ needs and desires. The aim of this thesis is to analyze current research and identify gaps in the market in order to develop a luxury hotel design model. The theoretical framework points out the phenomenon of luxury concept and the luxury tourism to identify the new luxury travellers and their viewpoints. Secondly it clarifies the luxury hotel trends today and for the future to build the base for the abstract model. Based on the findings a new abstract model called “NLH” (New Luxury Hotel) was developed to propose a benchmark to the luxury hotel design today. These conceptual guidelines help ensure that the needs and wants of luxury travellers are met to create better luxury experiences. Lastly, this model was used to design and repurpose Villa Arconati as a luxury hotel, which is a historical villa and amongst “Ville Delizie” near Milan. This location was chosen because of the value and potential of it in being a luxury destination for memorable experiences.

Lo scopo di questa tesi era quello di indagare sulla scena corrente e chiarire la direzione in evoluzione del design di un hotel di lusso, creare un modello astratto e progettare Villa Arconati come fase del progetto. Oggi il mercato del turismo di lusso si sta sviluppando rapidamente. I viaggiatori di lusso sono alla ricerca di servizi e prodotti turistici e di ospitalità unici rispetto al passato e il mercato si concentra sempre più sui bisogni e sui desideri dei viaggiatori. Lo scopo di questa tesi è di analizzare la ricerca attuale e identificare le lacune nel mercato al fine di sviluppare un modello di design di hotel di lusso. Il quadro teorico evidenzia il fenomeno del concetto di lusso e il turismo di lusso per identificare i nuovi viaggiatori di lusso e i loro punti di vista. In secondo luogo chiarisce le tendenze degli hotel di lusso oggi e per il futuro per costruire la base per il modello astratto. Sulla base dei risultati è stato sviluppato un nuovo modello astratto chiamato "NLH" (New Luxury Hotel) per proporre oggi un punto di riferimento per il design degli hotel di lusso. Queste linee guida concettuali aiutano a soddisfare i bisogni e le esigenze dei viaggiatori di lusso per creare esperienze di lusso migliori. Infine, questo modello è stato utilizzato per progettare e riproporre Villa Arconati come un hotel di lusso, che è una villa storica e tra "Ville Delizie" vicino a Milano. Questa posizione è stata scelta per il valore e il potenziale di essere una destinazione di lusso per esperienze memorabili.
