La rioteca del Giambellino : la biblioteca pubblica innovativa come strumento di rigenerazione urbana

Urban renewal is a fundamental thematic for the evolutive processes of the society of today, especially in a city as complex and layered as Milan is. Gaining the opportunity posed by this phenomenon, the project in this thesis develops a strategy for the Giambellino neighbourhood, in the South-West outskirts of the city. Starting from an accurate reflection on the contemporary library models, both from Italian ad european experiences, as well as from a meticulous study of the local libraries system and of the peculiar neighbourhood's socio-cultural background, from which the project is inspired, we arrive to the definition of a modernization strategy of the local libraries, determining five programmatic features for the creation of a new library model. It is then defined the prototype of the "Rioteca", that is a library that can propose itself as an integrated and multi-purposes cultural centre, that associates traditional library services with artistic production spaces, and that is a place to develop individual and social skills. The central aspect of the project is the definition of a new shape, that is capable of both insert itself and revitalize the urban context and create comfortable places for the activities performed. Since the organic development of the shape, it will be detailed the thematics linked to the internal spaces illumination and the constructive detail of the facade, studying the benefits gotten by the mechanically ventilated glass double skin. Furthermore it will be analysed the aspects linked to the structure of the building, dimensioning and verifying the floors and the roof, made with the concrete slab system.

La rigenerazione urbana è una tematica fondamentale nei processi evolutivi della società attuale, tanto più in una realtà complessa e stratificata come quella di Milano. Cogliendo l’opportunità di tale fenomeno, il progetto di questa tesi sviluppa una strategia per il quartiere del Giambellino, nella periferia Sud-Ovest della città. A partire da un’attenta riflessione sui modelli bibliotecari attuali, sia di esperienze italiane che europee, nonché da un accurato studio del sistema delle biblioteche milanesi e del particolare tessuto socio-culturale del quartiere, da cui il progetto trae ispirazione, si arriva alla definizione di una strategia di modernizzazione delle biblioteche rionali stesse, specificando cinque punti programmatici per la creazione di un nuovo modello bibliotecario. Viene a definirsi quindi il prototipo della “Rioteca”, ovvero di una biblioteca in grado di proporsi come centro culturale integrato e polivalente che abbia, associando i servizi bibliotecari tradizionali a spazi di produzione artistica, una natura ibrida e sia prima di tutto un centro di socialità culturale, luogo di crescita delle capacità individuali e delle competenze sociali. Aspetto centrale del progetto è la definizione di una forma nuova, in grado di inserirsi e rivitalizzare il contesto e di creare ambienti confortevoli per le attività svolte. Dato lo sviluppo organico delle forme dell’architettura qui proposta, verranno approfondite le tematiche riguardanti l’illuminazione degli ambienti interni e la tecnologia costruttiva degli elementi di facciata, studiando i benefici ottenuti dalla realizzazione di una doppia pelle meccanicamente ventilata; si analizzeranno gli aspetti legati alla struttura stessa dell’edificio, dimensionando e verificando i solai e la copertura realizzati con sistemi a piastra in calcestruzzo.
