Varosha. In abolitis terra. Translation from Latin : the forgotten land. Reviving an enclave ghost town in Cyprus using the principles of design of the linear city to revive the city and reconnecting its inhabitants with the landscape

Varosha is a ghost town in the occupied side of Cyprus since the Turkish invasion in 1974. The area remains forgotten since then without any activity. The project is based on the hypothetical event of the opening of the abandoned and fenced for 43 years city of Varosha to its former inhabitants. The concept of the Linear City is a conscious form of urban development for the regeneration of Varosha combining the green and the grey infrastructure to flourish the city and at the same time preserve and connect the rich cultural and natural heritage of the old with the new. Varosha will be transformed from a forgotten town to a resilient town having its economy and resources flourishing by connecting the city with its surroundings, bringing the landscape inside the forgotten city and connecting its’ people with the land, a primary source for redevelopment, creating a city ahead of its time. Getting people involved with urban agriculture and creating functional landscapes will result in bringing the two different communities together in the same space connecting and working together to revive Varosha.

Varosha è una città fantasma nella parte occupata di Cipro dall'invasione turca nel 1974. L'area rimane dimenticata da allora senza alcuna attività. Il progetto si basa sull'ipotetico evento dell'apertura della città abbandonata e recintata per 43 anni di Varosha ai suoi ex abitanti. Il concetto di Linear City è una forma consapevole di sviluppo urbano per la rigenerazione di Varosha che combina l'infrastruttura verde e grigia per prosperare la città e allo stesso tempo preservare e collegare il ricco patrimonio culturale e naturale del vecchio con il nuovo. Varosha sarà trasformata da città dimenticata in città resiliente, con la sua economia e le sue risorse fiorenti collegando la città con i suoi dintorni, portando il paesaggio all'interno della città dimenticata e collegando il suo popolo con la terra, una fonte primaria di riqualificazione, creando un città in anticipo sui tempi. Coinvolgere le persone con l'agricoltura urbana e creare paesaggi funzionali porterà a riunire le due diverse comunità nello stesso spazio che collega e lavora insieme per far rivivere Varosha.
