Theatre academy in Berlin

In the scale of the tower space the goal was to establish a hierarchy. Three roads crossing the river from south pass through Fischerinsel and create spatial sequence with the theatre building as the final point. Each of the spaces is further articulated by inner open areas defined by existing towers and masses of trees. The shapes of the open spaces are according to the grid of towers and are oriented along them all but one in front of the theatre. This is done to emphasize its singularity. Subsequently the space of the park is extended into the building through the bridge and connected to the river space on the other side by peripheral continuous urban loggia. The relationship of the building to the park is that of a ship to the land: never overlapping but meant to be linked. The project’s inner configuration continues the spatial sequence from outside. Due to being a tower it develops vertically referring to larger scales while going upper. First level opens to the park and river spaces followed by the connection to the center of the island and then to the Eastern part of the city. The sequence ends with panoramic view to the city from the roof level. The planar composition resembles a central longitudinal main space with serving spaces along two sides. Furtherly, these spaces are articulated by the overall compositional rhythm in transversal direction. The structural scheme resembles same order: transversal structural frames developing along the longitudinal core.

Ognuno di questi spazi é ulteriormente articolato da spazi aperrti interni, definiti dalle torri esistenti e dalle masse arboree. La forma dello spazio aperto sono progettate secondo la griglia delle torri e orientate lungo essa, tutte ad eccezione di quella posizionata di fronte al teatro. Ciò ha lo scopo di enfatizzare la sua singolaritá. Inoltre, lo spazio del parco è esteso dentro l'edificio attraverso il ponte connesso allo spazio del fiume sull'altra sponda, tramite una loggia perimetrale urbana. Il rapporto dell'edificio con il parco è quello di una barca con la terra ferma: mai sovrapposte ma sempre connesso. La configurazione interna del progetto continua la sequenza spaziale dell'interno. Per il fatto di essere una torre, essa si sviluppa verticalmente riferendosi ad una scala più ampia. Il primo livello si apre al parco e al fiume, seguendo l'esistente connessione tra il centro dell'isola alla prte Est della città. La sequenza si conclude con una vista panoramica sulla città dalla terrazza. La composizione planare configura uno spazio assieme centrale e a sviluppo longitudinale, con gli spazi serventi lungo i due lati. Inoltre questi spazi sono articolati attraverso il ritmo compositivo generale nella direzione trasversale. Lo schema strutturale si basa sullo stesso schema. Strutture trasverali si sviluppano lungo il nucleo longitudinale.
