For your delight. Progetto di un teatro sperimentale per il Teatro alla Scala di Milano

The topic of the project is an experimental theatre required by Teatro Alla Scala to be located inside the former Expo Area, with the annexed laboratories now placed in the Ex Ansaldo area. The area, where the theatre is a landarmark, represents the focus of a transformation and rebirth just outside the city, served by the subway line M1, as well as by the existing Rho Fiera station and by the future Stephenson station. The building therefore aims to be a place for meetings and interaction among people, but also a place for experimentation and creation. Thanks to its introverted nature and the continuity of the ground floor also inside the building, the designed theatre allows the audience to move from the hectic life of the city ground to the wonder hidden inside the building itself. The volume is made of two parts: a container given to the machine, which hosts the space for the artists and the staff, and the contents, the central space dedicated to the audience, who, through an open path can enjoy different experiences thanks to the tecnic frame located on the upper part of the building. The two systems come into contact through three theatre rooms inside the building which use the machine to cause astonishment among the audience. Two theatre rooms hang from a closure structure of the building and can be reached through the central vertical path, while a third one serves as the backdrop of the pre-existing Open Air Theatre.

Il tema di progetto è un teatro sperimentale richiesto dal Teatro alla Scala da situare all’interno dell’ex area Expo a Milano, insieme agli annessi laboratori ora posti presso l’area Ex Ansaldo. L’area, di cui il teatro è landmark, si presenta come punto focale di trasformazione e di rinascita alle porte della città, servita , oltre che dalla linea metropolitana M1, anche dalla stazione esistente di Rho Fiera e da quella futura di Stephenson. L’edificio si propone quindi di essere luogo di incontro e di scambio tra le persone, ma anche luogo di sperimentazione e di creazione. Grazie alla sua natura introversa e alla continuità del piano terra anche all’interno dell’edificio, il teatro progettato permette allo spettatore di poter passare dalla vita frenetica del piano della città alla meraviglia celata all’interno dell’edificio stesso. Il volume si costituisce da due parti: un contenitore dato dalla macchina, che ospita gli spazi a servizio degli artisti e degli addetti, e un contenuto, lo spazio centrale dedicato al pubblico, che, attraverso un percorso libero, può godere di esperienze diverse grazie all’utilizzo della graticcia totale posta sulla parte superiore dell’edificio. I due sistemi entrano in contatto attraverso tre sale presenti all’interno dell’edificio che si servono della macchina per generare stupore negli spettatori. Due sale sono appese a una struttura a chiusura dell’edificio e sono raggiungibili attraverso il percorso verticale centrale, mentre una terza si presta come fondale dell’esistente Oper Air Theatre.
