In this project, Politeama Theatre Building in Como has been readapted as performance and art center. Main function is preserved as performance area and some other functions added. There are art and dance classes, workshop and study area and a restaurant on the roof top. As a main concept, it has been experienced the idea of Ottomanization. The word of “Ottomanization” has been used with the aim of modern version of Ottoman architecture. Some of the ideas are used and adapted to the today. While this changes, main one of the most known sign of Ottoman architecture used: meshes with the geometric pattern. The center of the Politeama has been considered as the core of the building. For emphasizing the core, it surrounded with the meshes. The other reason to use the mesh is to give some clues to the people who is walking on the other floors. Because of the half transparency of the meshes, people could see and wonder what is happening on the stage. They can sit and watch it from above. Different mesh uses are searched and the ratio analyzed for the rhythm and for the openings on the surface. But these meshes have never seen as two-dimensional screens. On some places, these continuous panels become three-dimensional rooms, while on the other places they become furniture. Those half transparent panels, meshes are also representing the idea of to blur the border between Ottoman and modern architecture. On the plans, meshes are placed in between Turkish house planning and modern type of planning.
Alcune idee sono usate e adattate all'oggi.
