Nowadays, it seems that the modern society is searching to reconnect and identify with its cultural past. The way to achieve this is by protecting, reviving, embracing and understanding our heritage, as a conglomeration of social, build and natural environments. The natural heritage has dictated the way we built for centuries. Whole cities have been created just because of the presence of waterways and mineral springs. Throughout history water has shaped many other aspects of our lives beyond basic human needs, economical benefits and strategical location. It has molded our social habits, religious faiths and cultural development. In the past, especially the thermal baths, were playing an essential role in the health care and social life. Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria was famous during the centuries, with its’ tradition in using the local mineral water springs for bathing and healing. At the present this identity has lost its popularity. Most of the public baths that were used in the past, were closed and left without maintenance for many years. For bringing to life this cultural and architectural heritage, it is needed to concentrate not only in the building scale, but also proposing a city scale strategy. Therefore, our project is dedicated to develop Sofia as a water heritage city. As a part of this whole functioning system, the refurbishment project of famous “Ovcha Kupel” bath will play an important role.

Abstract
As a part of this whole functioning system, the refurbishment project of famous “Ovcha Kupel” bath will play an important role.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
