Developing an e-commerce solution for the travel industry is no trivial task: in fact, many peculiarities of the Travel&Leisure sector are rarely found in typical retail e-commerce applications. The system architecture is generally complex, involving different subsystems which interact with each other through service request- response mechanisms. In addition, integration with third-party services is required and retrieving real-time information is fundamental. This is why, in order to overcome those design challenges, it is necessary to consider the characteristics and needs of both the market and the users. Inspecting trends in B2B applications, analyzing the expectations of travel agents and employing the latest technologies allows the e-commerce solution to make an impact in the company's business.
Progettare una soluzione e-commerce per l'industria dei viaggi non è un compito banale: infatti, molte caratteristiche del settore del Travel&Leisure sono raramente presenti nelle tipiche applicazioni e-commerce per il retail. L'architettura del sistema è generalmente complessa a causa della presenza di sottosistemi e componenti di terze parti che interagiscono tra di loro. Per superare queste difficoltà progettuali è quindi necessario considerare le peculiarità e i bisogni del mercato e degli utenti. Analizzare i trend delle applicazioni B2B e le aspettative degli agenti di viaggio permette alla soluzione e-commerce, tramite l'impiego di tecnologie all'avanguardia, di avere un impatto significativo sul livello strategico dell'azienda.
