A somewhat new approach for the modelling of the aeolian vibration response of a conductor equipped with Stockbridge dampers, based on the concept of dynamic substructuring, is developed in this thesis. The natural frequencies and the modal shapes are computed starting from the impedance matrix of the overall system cable-plus-dampers. The proposed procedure allows to significantly reduce the computational effort with respect to other numerical approaches, such as the Finite Element Method. Furthermore, the impedance of each substructures can be derived in the domain that is most appropriate, for instance experimentally obtained substructures can be combined with numerical models.

Abstract
A somewhat new approach for the modelling of the aeolian vibration response of a conductor equipped with Stockbridge dampers, based on the concept of dynamic substructuring, is developed in this thesis. The natural frequencies and the modal shapes are computed starting from the impedance matrix of the overall system cable-plus-dampers. The proposed procedure allows to significantly reduce the computational effort with respect to other numerical approaches, such as the Finite Element Method. Furthermore, the impedance of each substructures can be derived in the domain that is most appropriate, for instance experimentally obtained substructures can be combined with numerical models.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
