Located in Como, Italy, Politeama is a historic abandoned theatre. Politeàma, from Greek “POLYS” very and “THEAMA” show, literally means theater which lends itself to shows in various ways. Arose between 1880 and 1920 in several Italian cities and towns, the politeama represented a stage of fundamental importance for the long formation process of institutional places of film consumption. In 1910, to the tune of La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini, is inaugurated the Politeama of Como, designed by the architect Federico Frigerio; it was intended as place of both theater and cinema, as a multifunctional space and flexible. Finally, in 2005 the Politeama have closed and since then remained in a complete state of abandonment. The thesis proposes to offer the reopening and revitalizing this scenic place as multipurpose community center, through a project that aims to enhance all those characteristics that define its social and historical peculiarities. Therefor; in the new design, to make the place fascinating from inside and even visible from outside: there is a new building within the old building, new functions, based on the community needs, were added and the building in general became open to the public flow. Manifesting itself as a new living organism in the cityscape, the design responds to surrounding environments and local history, balancing the functional requirements of complex and the needs of a community center.
Situato a Como, in Italia, Politeama è uno storico teatro abbandonato. Politeàma, dal greco "POLYS" molto e "THEAMA" mostra, letteralmente significa teatro che si presta a spettacoli in vari modi. Sorto tra il 1880 e il 1920 in diverse città e città italiane, il politeama rappresentò uno stadio di fondamentale importanza per il lungo processo di formazione dei luoghi istituzionali del consumo cinematografico. Nel 1910, sulle note di La Bohème di Giacomo Puccini, viene inaugurato il Politeama di Como, progettato dall'architetto Federico Frigerio; era inteso come luogo sia del teatro che del cinema, come spazio multifunzionale e flessibile. Finalmente, nel 2005, il Politeama ha chiuso e da allora è rimasto in uno stato completo di abbandono. La tesi propone di offrire la riapertura e la rivitalizzazione di questo luogo scenico come centro comunitario polifunzionale, attraverso un progetto che mira a valorizzare tutte quelle caratteristiche che ne definiscono le peculiarità sociali e storiche. Perciò; nel nuovo progetto, per rendere il luogo affascinante dall'interno e anche visibile dall'esterno: c'è un nuovo edificio nel vecchio edificio, nuove funzioni, basate sulle esigenze della comunità, sono stati aggiunti e l'edificio in generale è diventato aperto al pubblico flusso. Manifestandosi come un nuovo organismo vivente nel paesaggio urbano, il design risponde agli ambienti circostanti e alla storia locale, bilanciando le esigenze funzionali del complesso e le esigenze di un centro comunitario.
