Abstract
Architecture, like memory, is composed of images. Memory, like architecture, constructs through a relationship between images, a framework for understanding space and time. The ubi sunt ( where are they?) tradition addresses the farthest reaches of sensual apprehension, the point where such apprehension trails into unintelligibility and disappearance and so where memory turns into imagination. Death is essential question which constitutes existence and follows persons genesis in all times and cultures. The question about death is considered to be as one of the most difficult questions that a person puts in front itself as the only living being conscious about it’s own death. The purpose of this thesis is to explore men’s connection to the place trough images of architecture as a memory. The symbiotic relationship between architecture and memory is forged in each one’s appropriation of the other to make connections in space and time. The fragmentation between present and past disappears as one place. /// The ability of architecture to reflect and transform memory through image . /// The cemetery is certainly a place unlike ordinary cultural spaces. It is a space that is however connected with all the sites of the city, state or society or village, etc. Cemeteries manifest an idealized plan; mark a final rite of passage; enclose an utter rupture in time; offer multiple and contradictory meanings; and enfold both the mundane and the extraordinary. Cemeteries can be described as disturbing spaces of and for the imagination. In this project as a base material is used stone which symbolizes tradition and history oriented towards the ocean as a symbol of future and eternity.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
