The thesis investigates the possibilities of using biophilic design principles in the transformation of an old and abandoned building such as the former heating plant into a culture center. On one hand biophilia (meaning love of nature) focuses on human’s innate attraction to nature and natural processes. It suggests that we all have a genetic connection to the natural world built up through hundreds of thousands of years of living in agrarian settings. The biophilic design principles is a human centred approach that when applied improves many of the spaces that we live and work in today, with numerous benefits to our health and well-being. On the other hand the adaptive reuse is seen as an effective way of reducing urban sprawl and environmental impact. Both native problems if the city of Sofia together with the lack of contemporary culture spaces capable of attracting the young population. Therefore the thesis explores the opportunity by giving a new live to the existing structure of the former heating plant. To stimulates and invites the inhabitants of Sofia and the surrounding neighbourhood to participate. Music or dance lessons, follow a painting course, borrow books, go to see a nice exhibittion, rehearse with your band and go to a pop concert, it’s all happening and what is more - it is happening in an improved natural atmosphere.

Abstract
Music or dance lessons, follow a painting course, borrow books, go to see a nice exhibittion, rehearse with your band and go to a pop concert, it’s all happening and what is more - it is happening in an improved natural atmosphere.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
