Abstract
We always live in a rush of deadlines, respect for schedules, in the frenzy of things to do between home and work. Always projected into the future, we lose contact with the present, and even more with our past. Faced with the current rapidity of change, the past, traditions and legends offer orientation and belonging. Every society today tries to find a difficult balance between tradition and transformation. People, denaturalised by modern and post-modern society, have a strong desire to recover traditional values, because they know that people without traditions is people without a soul. Thanks to their characteristic of strengthening the bonds of belonging to their origins, thus promoting respect for cultural diversity and creativity, as well as being one of the most beautiful products of human intelligence because they speak of real facts using all the tricks of the narrative fictions of the great writers, the legends are part of the immaterial cultural heritage established by UNESCO since 2003. The cultural heritage therefore does not include only monuments and collections of objects, but also all living traditions transmitted by our ancestors, exalted by generation in generation, and constantly recreated by communities and groups in response to their history, their environment and their interaction with nature. Environment and nature, two realities of which today the need is increasingly felt. There is a desire for green, to grow a vegetable garden, to swim, to walk, to do outdoor gymnastics, to read, to eat slow food and ride a bike. It is also in this sense of a return to the origins, being in contact with nature, slowing down the pace of our lives. In recent years, all the cities of the world are gearing up to improve the quality of life of their citizens, investing in public spaces and in sustainable mobility. Expanding your network of cycle paths, because cycling is good for us and also good for the environment. All this can be found in Varese. The “Garden City” immersed in the green of its seven hills and in the blue of its seven lakes, hosts a cycle and pedestrian track that surrounds the Lake of Varese. A circuit designed to promote the territory, designed to touch the most culturally interesting areas of the province, from the natural reserve of Plaude Brabbia, to the UNESCO heritage pile-dwelling sites.
