With Design gaining increasing acceptance and popularity in the world of work, the need to develop contextual innovations in the approach, within the area of design education, is of great value. The first phase of my thesis aims to explore the current state of design education worldwide. By probing into education models, especially ones that are breaking the structured mold set by veteran organizations, I aim to understand the need to push current practices and find opportunities that can help re-frame perspectives. The second layer to this setting involves analyzing the design landscape in India, and how this backtracks into design education. In reality, owing to India’s dynamic culture, economic and social structures and the sheer variety of “user” profiles one can list out, designing for such a context requires special consideration into the methods and practices that in the recent past have been deemed as standard. The proposed solution is a skill based service system that gives students access discover extra-syllabus skills according to their desired personal career path.The skill compass is the main touchpoint for the students. By having an overview of the skills they have, are currently developing, and need to develop - in the course of their selected program (bachelors, masters, track etc.) , they are able to assess their own development.
Il campo del design sta guadagnando una crescente accettazione e popolarità nel mondo del lavoro, nasce così la necessità di sviluppare approcci innovativi nel contesto di formazione. La prima fase della mia tesi mira a esplorare lo stato attuale dell'educazione al design in tutto il mondo. Sondando modelli educativi, in particolare quelli che vanno fuori dagli schemi definite da organismi veterani, il mio obiettivo è quello di comprendere la necessità di spingere le pratiche attuali e trovare opportunità che possano adattarsi meglio allo scopo educativo. La seconda parte della tesi riguarda l’analisi del panorama del design in India e il modo in cui viene insegnato. A causa della cultura, delle strutture economiche e sociali dinamiche dell'India e l'enorme varietà di profili "utente" che si potrebbero elencare, la progettazione per tale contesto richiede una speciale considerazione sui metodi e le pratiche che sono state considerate standard negli ultimi anni. La soluzione proposta è una metodologia basata sulle proprie competenze che da modo agli studenti di scoprire le loro potenzialità in relazione alla carriera che essi vogliono intraprendere. Il “compasso delle abilità” è il touchpoint principale per gli studenti. Avendo una panoramica delle proprie competenze, di quelle attualmente in progresso e di quelle che devono ancora accrescere – durante il percorso formativo (laurea triennale, specialistica, ecc) sono in grado di valutare al meglio il percorso di sviluppo.
