Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Mass tourism, whilst providing certain economic benefit, can have a massively adverse ecological impact to the local environment which in turn can negatively affect the economy and the health of the residents of any popular tourist destination. One of the most important factors of tourism is sufficient accommodation, including hotels. The design of an eco-friendly hotel helps in achieving the balance between the three key principles of environment, economy and social aspects required for an outcome with real sustainability. A clear understanding of the potential ecological problems is vital for knowing how to apply sustainability in designs, hence this thesis will discuss the ecological issues such as climate change, land contamination, ozone depletion and how they can affect the surrounding environment and societal welfare as supported by case studies. This thesis also aims to demonstrate and understand how architects and designers can implement strategies for enhancing efficiency and reducing the negative ecological impact on the natural environment by using green technologies such as solar panels and other energy saving products that can improve the sustainable approach in designing hotels. As wells as drawing the attention of interior designers to using eco-friendly materials for wall coverings, flooring and in the designing of furniture in addition to highlighting the role high technology can play nowadays and how the shrewd designer can take advantage of that to improve the sustainability of their hotel designs.

Abstract
As wells as drawing the attention of interior designers to using eco-friendly materials for wall coverings, flooring and in the designing of furniture in addition to highlighting the role high technology can play nowadays and how the shrewd designer can take advantage of that to improve the sustainability of their hotel designs.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
