Reverso. Scenari e aree di supporto nel giardino di Daniel Spoerri

Aim of this work is the creation of support areas and spaces inside Daniel Spoerri’s Garden in Tuscany (Italy). The project born after a preliminary site visit at Spoerri’s Garden, where, through visual inspections, specific questionnaires and field researches it was highlighted both the good elements and the issues related to the reference area. I have personally taken note of the importance of the surrounding natural elements, discoveries and theatricality and, therefore, I have considered that the correct way to meet the goal, was not to visually affect the surrounding areas and spaces and pay respect to the existing works. Only one single word can summarize the “keyword” of my work: Equilibrium. Equilibrium between the parts, balance of opposites, alternation of elements but also balance in the physical sense of the term equalization of opposing forces. The intent is therefore to create spaces to improve the experience during the vist, where the balance, declined in its various aspects, accompany and help the visitor. In external spaces, in fact, the equilibrium is mainly perceived on the choice of the location of the rest areas and in their shape that smoothly follows the various slopes and deformities of the ground, hence integrating with the surrounding environment. Inside, the theme of the “zero gravity” and the overturning of the floors make the user experience very suggestive and unique. A project site with such a strong artistic and botanical identity has made design an interesting and tough challenge which has been played on the edge between respect for the context and enhancement of support spaces.

Questa tesi si pone come obbiettivo quello di creare degli spazi di supporto al Giardino di Daniel Spoerri in Toscana. ll progetto è nato dopo un primo sopralluogo al Giardino di Spoerri dove con una serie di indagini, questionari e ricerche sul campo è stato possibile evidenziare quali fossero i pregi e quali le problematiche dell’area di riferimento. Dopo aver constatato in prima persona l’importanza che hanno per il Giardino, elementi come natura, scoperta e teatralità si è potuto dedurre che il modo corretto di affrontare il progetto sarebbe stato quello di intaccare visivamente il meno possibile lo spazio e relazionarsi con ossequioso rispetto alle opere. Una sola parola dunque poteva fungere da keywords per questo spazio: Equilibrio. Equilibrio tra le parti, bilanciamento dei contrari, alternanza di elementi ma anche equilibrio nel senso fisico del termine di pareggiamento di forze contrarie. L’intento è quindi quello di creare degli spazi per migliorare l’esperienza di visita, in cui l’equilibrio, declinandosi nei suoi vari aspetti, accompagni e aiuti il visitatore. Negli spazi esterni infatti l’equilibrio si percepisce soprattutto nella scelta dei punti di collocamento della aree di sosta e nella loro forma che asseconda le varie pendenze e deformità del terreno, integrandosi così con l’ambiente circostante. All’interno, il tema dell’annullamento di gravità e del ribaltamento dei piani rendono l’esperienza degli utenti molto suggestiva. Un sito di progetto con una così forte identità artistica e botanica ha reso la progettazione una sfida interessante giocata sul filo di rasoio tra rispetto del contesto e valorizzazione degli spazi di supporto.
