T.R.I.P. - Trasformazione Riqualificazione Identità Progetto. Progetto di uno studentato a Porto

The project is located in Largo Actor Dias, in an area of ​​the city outside the ancient Muralha Fernandina, whose traces are still visible today, southeast of the first historical core of the city of Porto. On the west side of the block the Escada Dos Guindais runs steeply bouncing between the narrow spaces between the houses and reaches the Douro river, covering about 70 meters in altitude. The rocky nature, which characterizes the whole city, can be identified close to the project area, some terracings in a disordered way support the wall between granite rock. The project area appears in the first papers already quite isolated, in a peripheral area of ​​the historical context that undergoes a further delimitation to the north with the construction of the viaduct in via Sousa Dias that creates a clean break with the urban structure of the city facing the river. Although Porto's main university is located north of the historic center, in Paranhos, (about 5 km from the project area), along the viaduct there are two university structures disconnected from the context that present a problem of ancillary services. The choice of the type of project building is therefore dictated by the need to make up for the lack of accommodation facilities in the area. The impervious character of the area and the strong difference in height draw this part of the city, like the whole landscape of the Douro, which becomes the interpretative paradigm for the architecture of the project, which makes the narrow rise and fall of the alleys that reach the river .

Il progetto si colloca in Largo Actor Dias, in una zona della città al di fuori dell’antica Muralha Fernandina, di cui si vede traccia ancora oggi, a sud est del primo nucleo storico della città di Porto. Sul lato ovest dell’isolato la Escada Dos Guindais corre ripida rimbalzando tra gli stretti spazi tra le case e arriva fino al fiume Douro, coprendo circa 70 metri di dislivello. La natura rocciosa, che caratterizza tutta la città, si riesce ad individuare a ridosso dell’area di progetto, alcuni terrazzamenti in modo disordinato sostengono la parete tra roccia di granito. L’area di progetto compare nelle prime carte già abbastanza isolata, in una zona periferica del contesto storico che subisce un ulteriore delimitazione a nord con la costruzione del viadotto in via Sousa Dias che crea un taglio netto con la struttura urbana della città rivolta verso il fiume. Nonostante il polo universitario principale di Porto si trovi a nord del centro storico, a Paranhos, (circa 5 km dall’area di progetto), percorrendo il viadotto si incontrano due strutture universitarie sconnesse dal contesto che presentano un problema di servizi accessori. La scelta della tipologia di edificio di progetto è dunque dettata dal bisogno di sopperire alla mancanza di strutture ricettive nella zona. Il carattere impervio dell’area e il forte dislivello disegnano questa parte di città, come tutto il paesaggio del Douro, che diventa il paradigma interpretativo per l’architettura del progetto, che fa suo lo stretto salire e scendere dei vicoli che arrivano fino al fiume.
