Milano bombshelters. Un nuovo spazio di memoria nei seminterrati del liceo Parini

They were called shelters, a term more "reassuring" than the word refuges, and were the points where the population took refuge during the bombing until the signal of the ceased alarm. In recent years, they have been transformed into archives, gyms, apartments, erasing every sign of their past and therefore, history. Despite this, in some basements, not yet deprived of their original function of cellar or storage, traces of memory are still visible. The project has a double aim: the restoration of the two spaces used as anti-aircraft shelters of Liceo Parini, today transformed into storage, on the other, the restoration is part of a larger project, the creation of a widespread museum of memory, which connects the various signs and spaces of the underground life of those years, before their permanent cancellation with the restoration of buildings's facades, or the change in use of the basements.

Venivano chiamati ricoveri, termine più “rassicurante” rispetto alla parola rifugio, ed erano i punti in cui si rifugiava la popolazione durante i bombardamenti fino al segnale del cessato allarme. Negli ultimi anni sono stati trasformati in archivi, palestre, appartamenti, cancellando così ogni segno della loro passato e quindi, la storia. Nonostante ciò, in alcuni seminterrati, non ancora privati della loro funzione originaria di cantina o deposito, sono ancora visibili le tracce della memoria. Il progetto ha un duplice obiettivo: se da un lato vi è il recupero dei due spazi utilizzati come rifugi antiaerei del Liceo Parini, oggi trasformati e riadattati ai più svariati usi, dall’altro, il recupero si inserisce in un progetto più ampio, la creazione di un museo diffuso della memoria, che connetta i vari segni e spazi della vita sotterranea di quegli anni, prima che vengano cancellati definitivamente dal rifacimento delle facciate degli edifici, o dal cambio di destinazione d’uso dei seminterrati.
